Cooking Courses
Leiths Cookery School
I completed the six-month Essential Cooking Certificate with Leiths Cookery School, and it completely transformed my confidence in the kitchen.
The course covers an incredible range of skills including pastry, bread making, meat and fish preparation, baking, sauces and much more. I learnt so much throughout the programme and it has undoubtedly improved my cooking.
As a mum, the online format suited me perfectly. Each week's module is unlocked as you progress, allowing you to complete around seven hours of learning at your own pace. You'll upload photos of your dishes along with reflections on your work, and your tutor provides personalised feedback throughout the course.
After successfully completing the assessments you'll receive a certificate, with the opportunity to attend a two-day practical assessment in London to gain an accredited qualification.
One of the things I love about Leiths is that there are so many opportunities to continue learning afterwards—and I certainly hope to!

South Downs Bakery
I attended Mark's Artisan Bread Making and Gut Health course at South Downs Bakery in Cheriton.
Mark has been making sourdough for over 18 years and his knowledge is absolutely incredible. The class takes place in his home kitchen, creating a relaxed atmosphere, and everyone enjoys a shared lunch together, which was such a lovely touch.
Bread is one of my favourite things to make, and this course completely changed the way I approach baking. I now use my sourdough starter almost daily and love experimenting with new recipes inspired by everything I learnt.

Debbie's Kitchen
I've attended several of Debbie's classes over the years, including sushi, bread making, tarts, knife skills and Christmas inspiration workshops.
Classes are held at Boundary Oak School in Wickham and always have such a calm, welcoming atmosphere. Debbie's background as a teacher really shines through—she explains everything clearly and creates a relaxed environment where everyone feels comfortable.

South Coast Cookery School
South Coast Cookery School hosts a fantastic variety of visiting chefs and specialist cookery classes. Located above Southsea Deli, it's surrounded by some brilliant independent restaurants and international food shops.
I'd recommend visiting the area even if you're not attending a class—it's now a new favourite place to discover ingredients that are difficult to find elsewhere.
The teaching kitchen itself is beautifully designed. I attended a Korean cookery class with Luxx Organix here and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm already looking forward to booking another course.

Chewton Glen
Chewton Glen sits at the luxury end of the price range, but it's a truly beautiful place to learn.
They offer a fantastic selection of cookery courses and it's always lovely to stay afterwards for lunch, dinner or simply a drink. It makes for a really special day out.

Lime Wood
Another luxury venue that's worth every penny if you're looking for a treat.
I particularly love their focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Even the cocktails feel like they've come straight from the garden—which is absolutely my kind of thing!
They run a wide variety of courses throughout the year and it's somewhere I'd happily return to again and again.

Luxx Organix
I first discovered Lulu through a class at Southsea Cookery School.
She runs inspiring vegan cookery classes across Hampshire and West Sussex and has such an infectious passion for food. I came away full of new ideas and feeling completely inspired by her creativity.

WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust)
I completed my WSET Level 1 Award in Wines at the WSET School in London.
It was an amazing experience and I met some really interesting people throughout the day. My only mistake? Enjoying every single wine sample before sitting the exam! It suddenly became much more serious than I'd anticipated, so passing felt like a small miracle!
I'd love to continue working through the higher WSET qualifications. Next time though, I'll probably study a little closer to home to save on London travel and hotel costs.

Events I Love
BBC Good Food Show
This is one of my favourite events of the year.
Whether it's the Spring or Summer Show, there's always so much inspiration, fantastic demonstrations and plenty of opportunities to discover new products. A friend and I try to go whenever we can and always have such a brilliant day.
I'm also a BBC Good Food magazine subscriber, and it's one of my favourite moments each month to sit down with the latest issue and a lovely glass of something.
Good Food Shows - UK’s Ultimate Food Festival
Chilli & Cheese Festival
This travelling festival is fantastic fun for the whole family.
There are food stalls, live music, workshops, entertainment and, of course, the famous chilli eating competitions—which are absolutely hilarious to watch!

FUME Festival
My husband is the BBQ enthusiast in our family and recently attended FUME Festival in London.
Organised by Eating With Tod, the festival features live-fire cooking demonstrations, amazing street food, music and some brilliant exhibitors. He highly recommends upgrading to VIP tickets if you can—they're well worth it for the shorter queues and dedicated seating areas.
Ideal Home Show Christmas
If you're looking for festive inspiration, this is well worth a visit.
From Christmas decorations and food inspiration to workshops and seasonal shopping, it's a wonderful event. The atmosphere is incredibly festive, especially with local choirs performing Christmas carols throughout the venue.
It's also a great excuse for a festive overnight stay in London.
Other Creative Workshops
Nordic Potter / Peony Blue
Jonna is an incredibly talented natural florist and ceramic artist.
I attended one of her Christmas moss wreath workshops and absolutely loved her relaxed, nature-inspired style. She also creates and sells the most beautiful handmade pottery.

Paint & Pino South
If you enjoy Paint & Sip evenings, I can't recommend this enough.
A friend and I attended a themed life drawing painting night. Considering I'm definitely not a natural artist, I was pleasantly surprised with what I managed to create! It was such a fun evening and I'd happily go again.

Design Junction
I treated my stepmum and me to a pottery wheel throwing experience here.
We each created five pieces, choosing two to be glazed and fired. It was so much harder than it looks, but completely absorbing and incredibly enjoyable. My finished creations weren't exactly masterpieces—but that's all part of the fun!
I'd love to have another go.

Degaris Designs
I've attended several of Kimberly's wreath-making workshops over the years.
She also runs small-group painting classes, but it's her wreath workshops that I especially love. They're wonderfully relaxed, and Kimberly is always so encouraging—even when I arrive with slightly wild Christmas theme ideas!
